Curacao

Curaçao is the most widely held online gaming licence in the world and has moved to a modern, directly supervised regime under its own gaming authority.

Jurisdiction Image

Regulator

The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA), which now licenses operators directly under the National Ordinance on Games of Chance, replacing the historic master and sub-licence arrangement.

Licence fees

Curaçao sits in the mid range: an application fee, an annual licence fee and ongoing supervision costs, with no turnover-based gaming duty in the jurisdiction. Figures have changed with the new regime, so we confirm them at the point of application.

Our recommendation

Still the default choice for operators who want a recognised international licence at a sensible cost, and the reformed regime has improved how it is viewed by payment providers. Expect a more demanding application than under the old sub-licence system.

Important to know

  • Applications are assessed directly by the authority, with full due diligence on owners and directors.
  • AML, responsible gaming and player-fund protection policies must be in place before launch.
  • A local presence and local compliance contact are expected.
  • The licence does not cover markets that require their own national licence.

Benefits

  • Single licence covering all major product types.
  • Widely recognised by platform providers and aggregators.
  • No local gaming duty on turnover.
  • Stronger standing than the previous sub-licence model.
